Small Animals Volunteer
Nelson Centre
Do you love rabbits and other small animals? Volunteers in this role work with a variety of small animals and help clean, feed and care for the animals at the centre.
Help us improve the lives of small animals in our care.
Volunteers in this area are responsible for the feeding, cleaning and socialising of our rabbits and other small animals such as guinea pigs, birds, rats etc. We are looking for committed and responsible volunteers who are comfortable with rabbits and other small animals. This role involves a fair amount of physical work.
- Minimum age: 16 years.
- Personal time commitment: one shift once a week or fortnight for a minimum of 6 months.
- Training: you will receiving training while on-the-job during your shift.
- Experience: to work with small animal’s previous experience is ideal but not needed.
- Tasks: feeding, socialising, grooming, cleaning, dishes, laundry, helping with odd jobs if time allows etc.
Shift times are as follows:
Monday – Sunday (8:15am – 10:45am / 12pm – 2pm / 2:30pm – 4:30pm) *the finishing times may vary.

A few things to note:
- You must be at least 15 to volunteer in our Op Shops.
- You must be at least 16 to volunteer at our Centres. If you are younger, please check out our sections on 'Volunteering for Kids', 'Volunteering from Home' or talk to your family about fostering opportunities.
- You may need to provide an up to date Ministry of Justice check during this process, and we'll ask about any medical conditions so we can ensure your safety while volunteering.
