Making a difference in Dunedin

Volunteer with us

The SPCA Centre in Dunedin is the oldest SPCA in New Zealand, established in 1872. Set on 42 acres of land in the hills of North Dunedin, our purpose-built centre has been designed to provide optimal care for animals. This includes cat facilities, with a hospital and surgery.

The new administration building includes an education room fitted out with modern technology to provide for electronic presentations and educational talks available for use at request from community groups.

Our Dunedin Centre is well supported by volunteers who we are indebted to for their commitment and service. The volunteers and our animal attendant team care for around 800 animals each year that come through our Centre.

We are very fortunate to have a Community Support Officer in our local area supporting fundraising and education about how people can help us and how we can help the community. Our fundraising is also supported by a very well-run and popular op shop based in North Dunedin as well as our new op shop in Dunedin central.
